Country Kitchen Decorations

For most of us urban folk, as much charm as there is in the country, leaving the comforts of the suburbs and the city is not possible. But bringing this rural charm into our modern households is often a desired thing. That’s why finding country kitchens in modern settings is not an uncommon thing. In fact the homely feel that a country kitchen brings has no compare, especially when the details are very intricate.

Decorating a country kitchen is all about transforming urban to country, but without loosing the modernity. A country kitchen doesn’t mean that you result to firewood for your cooking- it means creating a near-country environment but still incorporating the gifts of modernity. With that being said, the first place to start in decorating your country kitchen is the floor. You can go all hardwood, like with dark oak or mahogany. The advantage with this kind of wooden flooring is that it fits both worlds- country and modern. If not, you can have a brick floor but with a wax finish for the comfortable feel. For the paint, an earthly color will suffice. For French country, you might want this color to be mustard or sunset yellow or oceanic blue.

Decorating your country kitchen means having a beamed ceiling. If an open ceiling is too much to take in or is not really an option in your house, you can have the usual one but maintaining the aforementioned colors. For your cabinetry, anything with a rustic appeal will do, like natural wood finish. For your countertops and tiles, an earthy color has to be maintained as well. Granite is great with its wide array of colors to choose from.

The final part in decorating your country kitchen is with your accessories. First with the utensils- cast iron ones usually do. Instead of storing them in cabinets, hang them near the stove. When you want them together, you can have a wrought iron hanger for that. This hanger can be put over your kitchen island for even more country detail. Your 21st century appliances can be used, but if possible tuck them behind cabinet doors. Get wicker furniture if you need it, for say your kitchen island that can double as an eating area for two or three people. If your kitchen is spacious enough, get a large wooden table, with a rustic appeal, and rough natural finish and you will have a complete country kitchen.
