Having a country kitchen in a suburban home is a great idea. Country kitchen have the warm feeling of home and nearness to nature. Since you cannot achieve the whole country kitchen in your suburban home, you can get as close as you can to a suburban home by having the walls made of bricks. Brick walls introduce some roughness which is characteristic of country life. If brick is not your idea, you can repaint the walls of your kitchen with an earthy color. Now, earth colors are not necessarily the brightest of colors and you may have to compromise on a little space for a little more country feel for a home. Earth colors perfect for a kitchen are the reds and the shades of reds, browns, rusty and chocolate brown, orange and shade of orange, etc. Yellow is also an earth color perfect for the kitchen. It is recommended that the walls should have the bright earth colors like butter, yellow and the like. The darker earth colors should be left for the kitchen cabinets. As for the floor, a wooden floor is perfect for the country look. There are varieties of wooden tiles that are artistic as well and ideal for the kitchen.

As for the cabinets, wood is the main material used to achieve this end. Hardwood can be expensive but there are many ways of getting the hardwood look without bending over backwards. You can get a home improvement expert to work around this for you. During those days, the cabinets were displays of beautiful earthenware and dinnerware; make sure to match these standards in your kitchen. Get yourself some dinnerware with designs of the old days and have them displayed in the cabinets. Look for bright colored dinnerware to complement the dark color of the cabinets. The country kitchen shelves in the cabinets should be strong enough to support the weight of the items stored on them. Usually, the shelves are roughly finished to accentuate the country look.

Mix the country and the modern look by having glass doors for the kitchen cabinets. If you are willing to go all the way to achieve the country kitchen look, scrap the cabinet idea and have open shelves which were more common during the time. Have them firmly fixed with firm support to handle the weight of the items that will be put on them.
