Having a country kitchen in a suburban home is a great idea. Country kitchen have the warm feeling of home and nearness to nature. As for the cabinets, wood is the main material used to achieve this end. Hardwood can be expensive but there are many ways of getting the hardwood look without bending over backwards. You can get a home improvement expert to work around this for you. During those days, the cabinets were displays of beautiful earthenware and dinnerware; make sure to match these standards in your kitchen. Get yourself some dinnerware with designs of the old days and have them displayed in the cabinets. Look for bright colored dinnerware to complement the dark color of the cabinets. The country kitchen shelves in the cabinets should be strong enough to support the weight of the items stored on them. Usually, the shelves are roughly finished to accentuate the country look.

Mix the country and the modern look by having glass doors for the kitchen cabinets. If you are willing to go all the way to achieve the country kitchen look, scrap the cabinet idea and have open shelves which were more common during the time.
