When it comes to mood setting, nothing does it better than dimmable light bulbs. These bulbs are built in such a way that you can adjust the total light output. That in other words, means that you have total control over the levels of brightness. Setting the scene or the mood is much easier this way.

There are different types of dimmable light bulbs. One common kind is the compact fluorescent bulbs. The physics behind the lighting of fluorescent bulbs is simple really. The basic of it is, inside the bulbs is mercury, which produces ultraviolet light when exposed to an electrical current. The total output from a 15w fluorescent is so great; it matches the same kind of output you would expect from a 60w incandescent bulb. The specifics of just how you get to reduce the light intensity are somewhat complicated, but the important thing is that they work great.

Dimmable incandescent light bulbs are living out the last of their glory days. They are dimmable, true, but they consume a lot of energy. The rising trend is with LED, though dimmable Led bulbs are somewhat rare to track down. The price tag on them is still not as friendly, which is what makes the CFL bulbs the most reliable, at least at the moment.

It’s important to ensure that the kind of dimmer that you have is compatible to the kind of dimmable light bulbs that you are getting. In most cases, the bulb manufacturer’s often indicate what bulbs will work and with what dimmers. If there is no compatibility, the dimming function will be flawed. Most of the time, a buzzing noise is heard, especially when you set the dimming to a minimum. If you are reading a book, or doing an activity that requires silence, then you will definitely hear the noise.
