The light bulb was one of the most important inventions in history and this is always accounted to Thomas Edison. Before and during ancient times, people already use light to illuminate their homes with the soft light of candles or of oil lamps. In fact, one of the many great stories about Abraham Lincoln was that he studied hard at night by the light of a candle laid on its side. That's where we get the famous saying, “a good student burns the candle at both ends."

A light bulb is turned on by the passing of electric current through it and heating the filament until it goes hot. The high temperature of the filament causes it to give off visible light by a process called incandescence. And incandescence is defined as the emission of visible light by a hot body. Any hot object gives off incandescent light. The higher the temperature of the object, the brighter is the light given off. Examples of incandescent objects include burning charcoals in a campfire or the barbecue grill, the sun, light bulb and the burners on electric stoves, which glow dull red when their temperature is on high.

In the development of many significant inventions, there is a little problem that must be overcome. For the incandescent light bulb, the problem was to identify the proper filament. And it was clear and understood that running electricity through certain materials would make them glow or catch light. The problem was that some materials would lit too brightly, making them burn out too quickly, while others would not produce enough light.

Lights undoubtedly contribute much heating of our home. It may have come to the moment of truth, but the incandescent light bulb was the work of many minds over many years. Electrical power was first built to provide lighting. Light bulbs are constantly encountered to the extent that replacing them became globally identical genre of jokes poking fun at different careers, social groups and nationalities. Incandescent light bulb wastes too much energy. Even the heat produced by the bulbs in existence has gone unused. The bulb’s short life and non-recyclable nature doesn’t help consumers wisely. This now became a pitfall for the very popular man made invention.
