Lamp Light Bulbs

Choices of light bulbs are very varied, mostly because of the different needs of illumination there are. When it comes to bulbs, the choices narrow down albeit a little, because lamp lights are a bit more subdued. Lamps are used for feature lightings in some instances, when the object or area to be illuminated is within the circumference of the light. Bedside lamps are very common, used for lighting the bedroom. Reading or home office tables also have lights, especially when there isn’t a room dedicated for the office itself. They are not the top choice when it comes to lighting an entire room. This calls for a greater type of lighting, preferably down lighting. This covers more space and illuminates all dark corners of a room. But we digress.

Lamp light bulbs differ in types, depending, say, on the physics behind bulb. The most popular, though the future for it looks bleak is the incandescent bulb. It’s the oldest model of light bulb, developed a very long time ago. It uses the theory of heating to the point of producing light, but in a vacuumed environment to discourage the combustion of the filament. Variations come in with the type of inert gas that is chosen to fill the vacuum environment. In light with that we have those filled with halogen, xenon and mercury arc, with the former ones being the most common. These bulbs have the disadvantage of heating up, as is expected from the combustion of the filament, which in most cases is tungsten, chosen because of its characteristic high melting point.

There are also fluorescent light bulbs used in lamps. Fluorescent bulbs have vacuums too, but filled with mercury (instead of an inert gas), which produces ultraviolet light in the presence of an electrical discharge. Fluorescent light bulbs do not heat up, and are somewhat energy efficient when compared to incandescent light bulbs.

The most favorite lamp light bulbs that seem to have won the hearts of most people are the LED bulbs. They are the most energy efficient among the three, and the greatest power savers, using only about 10% of the power used to light an incandescent bulb. They do not heat up at all, and have a long life, a decade of lighting, to be precise. They are good enough for lamp lighting because they produce enough light for all kinds of subdued illumination needs.
