Low Voltage Lighting

A transformer that supplies power to cables and lights of low voltage is plugged into an outdoor power receiver that has ability to convert standard voltage or current to low of about 13.5 volts. The cable supplies power to low voltage light fixtures that extend along the cable’s length.

The brightness or the dimness of the light given by the bulbs is determined by the wattage of the light bulbs used. The higher the wattage, say 60 watts, and the brighter the light will be. Installation of the whole system is easy and has no dangers attached to it. No specific training in electrical installation is needed. The only thing one needs to know is what plug goes where.

Generally, electrical fittings come with installation instructions. Low voltage is safe and very economical. In fact, one is able to save up to 50% or more in his power billings. Light fixtures for such lighting comprise of a number of varieties and one is simply spoilt for choice, unlike high voltage fixtures that are limited to several only. The lighting is of higher quality and does not irritate the eyes. There are fixtures of this system that are specifically meant for interior lighting only while others are for exterior lighting. For interior lighting, the fixtures are further divided to cater for wall lighting, ceilings, bathrooms and bedrooms. These too come with varieties that differ with color, wattage and general fitting ability.

The exterior fixtures differ with the areas they are meant for. For example, some are designed for walkway illumination, garden lighting, pinpoint architectural features, illumination of flower beds and general landscapes as well as marking the parking. The standing thing is that low voltage fixtures are easy and safe to install if they do not exceed 12 volts. This is entirely harmless even when it comes into contact with a person. Low voltage is recommended for areas that are generally safe and do not require lighting on the principle of security provision. It has a low light output. Fixtures for low voltage power are cheap. They are readily available and manufacturers are working tirelessly to improve on the designs. With this lighting too, lighting fixtures that differ in wattage can be used at the same time. Incase output surpasses one’s power pack, more transformers can be installed. The bottom line is that any wiring that exceeds 12 volts should be done by a qualified technician.
