They are a traditional form of art that are also sculptured according to the need of the customer and they are never out of fashion. They are fitted both to the interiors and to the exterior of a place. They are found in almost all the hotel that carries a quality with their name. They are extremely necessary for every hotel especially and almost all the houses that are well decorated. They carry pride and royalty with them. They give a good ambience to the place wherever they are located or used. The main reason for it to be called as a sconce is that it has no base that is attached to the ground. There are basically two types of sconces they are the traditional one and the modern one. The traditional ones are more or less like torch lighting whereas the modern ones are mostly lit by electricity, gas etc. They are however in no form attached to the ground. They are always attached to the wall however.

The word comes from two different languages namely the Latin and the French. In both the languages, it either means shields or a cover. The traditional ones were used especially to cover the flame from being blown off. The modern ones are however used in the halls, the corridors and the pathways just to give a royal touch to the appearance. They are however placed in the walls under a perfect measurement. They are supposed to be placed at three fourth of the height of the wall from the floor. They are also placed with equal distance from each other. This distance between them is equal to the distance of that from the floor. In addition, they are placed alternatively on either sides of the wall.
