Actually most kitchens represents the personality of the women of the household, as she spends ample time in the kitchen every day. So people have a tendency of investing time and money to ensure that the kitchen looks best in the entire house. There are various ways of getting this look of antique finish

One of the methods is staining, which is a popular method. In the method, one has to clean the cabinets thoroughly to ensure that there exists no dust clinging around. Then through a brush or a sponge, a light layer of stain is applied to one section of the cabinet. Before the stain dries, a paper towel is used to wipe on the stain severely so that a finish of antiqueness appears. This process is repeated till the whole cabinet gets an antique look. Another method used to bring that antique look is distressing. In this method, the cabinets have to be painted. A sand paper is used to rub on the paint surface so that the rubbed cabinets look much worn and very old. Generally the edges and handles are focussed to give this old appearance but if people in the household insist on the real antiqueness, they also rub the middle portion of the cabinets.

Another method used to achieve antiqueness on the kitchen cabinets is crackle painting. It is generally done by professionals where the base painting and the surface / top painting are contrasted. It means that if the based paint is dark in colour, the top paint will be light colour or vice versa. Faux Painting is another method used to bring in the antique finish on the kitchen cabinets. First background colour paint must be applied on the cabinets. Then the glaze is mixed and using sponge or a brush, patterns are embossed on the based paint giving an old age look. Faux painting also calls for an expert to have the best results. Whether the whole kitchen is designed with antiqueness, at least the kitchen cabinets can wear an antique look because it will enhance the uniqueness of the finish and will project well. It need not be for new kitchens alone, without much expense, an existing kitchen can be renovated using any of the techniques specified to get an antique appeal.
