Best College Student Credit Card

All college freshmen are attacked by a pack of wolves called creditors all wanting them to enlist for their credit card services. It is important that college students are advised on the responsibilities, advantages and disadvantages that come with college credit cards.

The best college credit cards are those that put freshmen on a spending limit. This will protect even the parents who will be the ones paying the debt if the student goes on a wild spending spree, especially for those students in their first year who have not yet gotten a job to sustain them through college.

Most college students tend to prefer the credit cards with an Annual Percentage Rate. The most common gimmicks the creditors use are point rewards and cash backs to lure freshmen into listing up for their credit card services. In real sense, these offers only encourage students to keep spending money as they are trying to win these offers.

To make the situation even worse is that the college credit cards can be controlled online. The student is not conscious about how a spend thrift he/she is until they receive their monthly statement. The only advantage is that the parents can monitor how their children are using their credit cards across the globe through the internet.

College credit cards have a theft and fraud prevention feature to protect the user. Students are advised not to accept credit cards that do not offer this protective measure.

Students normally have big dreams of great well paying careers in the near future after completing college. This may however encourage them to spend irresponsibly and end up in a swamp of debts. It is important that they decide on how they plan to use the credit card before choosing a particular college credit card.

First, the student should decide whether they are going to pay the card on a monthly basis or whether they will be carrying over the balance. They should also understand the credit card’s interest rate to know exactly how to arrange for the payment.

The student can choose the annual fee. This charge is higher but it always comes with perks here and there.

Some college credit cards have a lot of attractive incentives; however, the student should be keen to know whether they will actually benefit from them or not. If they are offering a 5% off for purchase of music instruments at a particular store and yet the student has no interest in musical instruments or that particular store, then the student should not consider that particular type of college credit card.
