Merchant Credit Card Fraud

Merchant credit card fraud is nothing but a theft or fraud activity committed by a person relating to credit cards. The following are some of the ways in which merchant credit card frauds can be brought down to a considerable extent.

1. In order to prevent fraud online, one must ensure that the person with whom they are transacting are someone whom they know the whereabouts of or someone who is accessible in case of frauds. To make that happen one can make use of the geolocation address. Geolocation actually helps in detecting fraud by identifying region through the IP address and also through the billing distance.

2. Ensure that the IP address belongs to the same country from where the bill is getting generated or from where the transaction is happening. Every country has been given a unique IP address and any deviations from the norm in this part could be symptoms of possible frauds or thefts in the future. There are different IP addresses detecting services available which would help in detecting the origin of the transaction.

3. Look at the risk factor of a particular country from which the transaction is originating. Look out for cases relating to credit card frauds in that particular area and if there has been a history of credit card frauds originating from that area, then it would be better not to deal with people online from those areas as there is huge exposure to risk. Most of the European countries come under this category.

4. Check whether anonymous email ids are being used by the person transacting over the net or not. If yes, then it would be better to stay away from such people as it would be very difficult to trace such people in case of fraud.

5. Check for the addresses and especially the phone numbers and the zip code. You do not want to get engaged in a transaction with a person who has provided a phone number or a zip code which has never existed on the face of earth.

6. Also check for the compatibility of the address and the country from which the transaction is coming in. There are banks, especially new and small banks, which do not rigorously look into the address identification processes ultimately putting the online transacting people on risk.

7. It would be always better to ring the credit card issuing bank for checking the validity of the credit card before shipping the goods.
