Bathroom Tile Design Ideas

Being one of the most important rooms in any house, the bathroom tiles play a major role in enhancing its beauty and design. There are many bathroom tile design ideas that vary according to their various materials and styles. All of them are made to bring out the beauty of the bathroom. The type of materials used in making the tiles determines the maintenance strategies for the bathroom tiles. The tiles used in the bathroom should be safe to walk on apart from being water and stain resistant. The following are some of the types of tiles that are appropriate in the bathroom.

Decorative tiles are usually decorated with floral patterns or geometric designs and can create interesting patterns when used within other tiles of the same color or size. If well blended with other fixtures and furnishings, the decorative tiles can create a beautiful effect on the bathroom.

Glazed ceramic tiles are normally baked onto their surfaces and are very durable. They are easy to maintain as well and come in a wide variety of colors to match any décor style. They can also be made to look like they have been made out of natural stone. They should be however designed with a slip-resistant finishing to suit the bathroom floor which is mostly wet.

Mosaic tiles are highly suitable for the bathroom. This is because they are designed with many grout lines making them slip-resistant. They are small and square in shape and are available in rectangular shapes with individual tiles being held together with a mesh backing.

Natural stone are tiles made from natural materials like granite, limestone, marble and slate. Although the tiles have a beautiful effect in any room, they tend to absorb stains and are very difficult to maintain. They need to be sealed when used on the bathroom floor especially tiles made from limestone slate.

Porcelain tiles are fired at very high temperatures; and as such are resistant to staining. A wide range of colors can also be added to the white base and different surface textures can be created from it to resemble other types of tiles made from different materials.

Quarry tiles limit the color options of the bathroom tile as they are made out of a red clay base. They are also prone to staining because of their unglazed surfaces and need to be used with a sealer. However, their unglazed surface makes them slip resistant even when sealed.

Terra Cotta Tiles are available in many colors and they are non-vitreous. They tend to stain and need to be sealed.
