Green kitchen design is an ideal concept of contributing to the saving the environment. Lot of people or rather most of the people don’t think in these lines as far as kitchen is concerned. But little attention and careful choosing of the kitchen accessories can make a big difference. More than 10% of the total greenhouse gases are produced by kitchens around the world and this figure in not small because it is increasing day by day year by year.

One of the easiest ways of going green in kitchen design is to discard all possible soaps, detergents, liquids, cleansers, etc which is chemical based and replace them with material using natural ingredients. This sounds small but it is a big of going green because the amount of these things used in daily routines is tremendous and controlling this makes a huge impact. These chemical based or enhanced substances not only effect the environment but also are harmful for personal health. Rather than these some plant based or combination of some natural things should be preferred.

The next target for getting the green kitchen can be the fittings, storage cabinets, floorings, panels, etc. They can be bought either good quality second hand ones or ones which are made of cork flooring, bamboos, etc. In this the some prior study and research is advisable because buying good quality second hand stuff takes lot of patience and efforts. Sometimes it is also good to mix and match of old and new stuff in the kitchen. Mixing old furniture with new colours o r may be new artefacts, etc can give very good look to the kitchen also serve the green purpose.

The so called gadgets of kitchen like the refrigerator, microwave, etc are also not spared. This means that all these gadgets should be efficient in conserving energy and power. Lot of companies have done advance research in this segment and they have come out with lot energy saving models with affordable and variable price ranges also. Besides these energy efficient products, efforts should be made to use solar energy also. This is the big thing coming up these days. Some companies have come out with refrigerators which run on solar power. Using reusable bags which are not made of plastic can be a great support for green kitchens. Switching off extra lights or when not required also helps in saving the energy and making the kitchen green.
