Kitchen Design Guidelines

Not unless you are home improvement expert, I bet most of us are first timers when it comes to redecorating the kitchen. If you are a first timer, there are some golden rules of kitchen design that need to be followed for the best result. These are going to help you to put your ideas onto your new kitchen.

One of the most important kitchen design guidelines is the floor plan of the home. The working triangle is very important. It consists of the movement between the sink the working area and the refrigerator. The movement basically should be in a triangle pattern.

There are several types of floor plans used in kitchen and the basic one is the wall floor plain. In this plan, all the three focal points are on the same wall. This plan is going to best fit a small kitchen with little cooking to be done. In the floor plan, it is required that the fridge be in the furthest end; the working area in the middle and the cooking area in the other end. The L shaped kitchen takes the working triangle to another level and is perfect for a slightly larger kitchen. The working triangle is large and there is a lot of movement from each of the three points. The sink must be below the window to allow the user to look at nature when washing up. The cooking area is next to the washing area for convenience and the countertop is as the furthest end.

As for the larger kitchen, there are two floor plans to choose from the gallery plan of the U plan. The gallery plan has these three points opposite to each other and nothing in the middle. The positioning of all the points is essential to the working of the kitchen. They need to be well distributed to form the triangle. The U is the same as the gallery plan, but one of the three points is in the middle such that there is more convenience. This plan is the one that forms the perfect triangle. These kinds of kitchen have several working areas and several cooking areas that need to be well synchronized. As for the largest kitchens or the restaurant type kitchens with several areas of cooking cleaning and food preparation, the best plan is the G plan which has an additional working area in the middle. This adds to the convenience of the users as well.
