Kitchen Pantry Design

Depending on kitchen sizes, a pantry may or may not be necessary. If yours is a large family though that congregates to the dining room everyday to share a meal together, perhaps you need to have pantry included. It’s a storage area for your foodstuff and other kitchen supplies. The pantry can be used as additional space when your cabinetry does not suffice. Some shoppers prefer doing a lot of grocery shopping to reduce the number of trips to the store. When your cabinets cannot hold it all, the pantry can.

Your kitchen size will determine what kind of pantry you get in terms of size. It could be a dedicated cabinet area runs from top to bottom, or a walk in pantry, as in a small room. For the cabinet pantry, there are various designs that you could use. It’s important, for the sake of décor, to have the pantry match your cabinetry in terms of wood type and color.

This pantry is shelved, and depending on the design, each shelf can be dedicated to its own kind of foodstuffs. One design that is truly outstanding is the pull-out pantry. It’s like a vertical drawer that you slide out when you want to access the stored contents. It’s usually inbuilt into a wall, like the cabinetry, only that it’s taller. Depending on just how big your grocery shopping usually is, you can have two or more pull-out pantries installed. Besides your grocery, you can stack dishes in the shelves as well.

A walk in pantry is more familiar, being that it’s a dedicated room. It has no complexities in design, but you can take any approach you desire. You can have pantry cabinetry, with glass doors, or you could have one with shelves and open cabinetry. When you want specificity in arrangement, you can build shelves or cabinets proportional to the kind of foodstuff you are going to store. Baking supplies like flour and sugar will need more space than your bottles of sauces and syrups. Have shallow shelves for your fruits and vegetables too.

The location of your pantry is crucial. It needs to be adjacent to the kitchen as much as possible. The passageway between the kitchen and the dining is considered a perfect place, though you are at liberty to choose the location that is most convenient to you. Home improvement magazines can always help in giving you ideas when you can’t seem to come up with one on your own.
