Home Office Equipment

Working at home has great benefits that come along with it including making your own schedule, no driving in traffic and only answering to yourself. For your at home position you will need home office equipment. The equipment will be extensive in some situations so it will be necessary to have a list of what you will most likely use in the office. Home office equipment can be a pleasure to shop for and purchase as it will be going into the production of your business so search for well made and useful items.

Organization will be a primary must as working from home it can easily get out of control where you keep paperwork and supplies. Start with filing cabinets and file folders for maintaining the organization of any and all business transactions you provide. You will need to have areas designated to customer orders and deliveries, supplies; purchases you have made will include invoices which need to be stored in quick reference areas. You will need some shelving units as well for keeping all items necessary, such as paper, pens, envelopes and items used for your particular business.

You will need a computer that is used primarily for the business. When you first begin working from home, using the family computer will suffice temporarily; however, it is recommended that you have a separate PC or laptop used for business purposes only. There are several reasons for this such as; when you have customer information stored on the family computer it will be easy for it to mistakenly deleted or moved to an unknown folder. This will also be a good tax write off whereas using the family computer most likely cannot be claimed as office equipment.

There should also be a telephone with a separate line if the work you will be doing involves any sort of customer communications. The computer and email may be the primary source of customer contact, but it is practical to have a separate phone line should you have to discuss anything with a customer. You should also have a very comfortable and well made office chair. The chair is where you will spend the majority of your day so it only goes to say it should be one that will not destroy your back while working. A desk should be the right size for the space you have claimed as your office and should be a comfortable height, have a couple of drawers and look nice. When purchasing home office equipment you should purchase items that are within your budget, but that are going to be comfortable and well made.
