Safety is got to be the main concern of any laboratory. Each laboratory has its own safety needs. For instance, if the lab uses radioactive materials then proper radiation proof suits are required. Likewise, each type of laboratory has its own safety equipments. But, some of the safety equipments are commonly found in most laboratories. These equipments are a must in most laboratories due to their inherent uses. Some of the well known universal laboratory safety equipments are outlined below.

Each person using the laboratory has to have a pair of gloves. This is used to handle the laboratory equipments and other associated materials. Most of the laboratory equipments are prone to contain contaminants and exposure to them could cause undesirable effects. Gloves can also be used to protect the hands from sharp objects.

Safety glasses are an important kind of laboratory safety equipments that is a must in all laboratories. Especially, if it is a physics lab where people are subjected to various lights there are possibilities for eye defects. Also in mechanical labs, safety glasses are used to protect our eyes from exposure to intense light that comes from welding devices.

The next important laboratory safety equipment is the respirator. The respirator is used in situations when there is scarcity in the available oxygen level. In most laboratories, when there is leakage of harmful gases, respirators come in handy. This becomes especially useful when in a physics and chemistry lab where we use gases for all heating purposes.

One of the most well known laboratory safety equipment that is found in all laboratories is the first aid kit. The first aid kit contains all medical products that are required for basic aiding. When unexpected medical emergencies occur like bleeding due to improper handling of laboratory equipments, etc, these first aid kits come handy. They contain necessary supplies to stop the bleeding temporarily. It helps in buying the time needed to go to a hospital.

The most widely used laboratory safety equipment is probably the fire extinguisher. It has been made a standard to have a fire extinguisher in place in all laboratories. Whatever the laboratory may deal with, it is prone to catch fire one way or the other. To survive those fatal situations, fire extinguishers are put to use.

Each laboratory has its own dangers associated with it. So without proper safety equipments it is impossible for its workers to have peace of mind.
