Test and measurement equipment are used in companies for a number of various uses. The purpose is to determine the performance of specific equipment is meeting the required specification determined by the task in which it has been determine to complete correctly and without flaw or error. There are numerous forms of calibration equipment used for testing and measurements for example for calibrating panel meters and temperature controllers, there would be a signal reference device used. This is a calibrator that is capable of generating a known electrical signal. The signal references being calibrated would be voltage, frequency and current. When the signal from either of them has been entered into the equipment there will be a display used as a guide to adjustment that will match the censored output.

Calibrations are used for temperature measurements as well, for example the plant producing molten steel will need to have exact measurements of the steel in order to use in a productive and required manner. A temperature probe or calibrator will possible be used in a situation such as this.

A tool and die shop will have many orders that require extreme precision. The machine will be set through calibrations as well as the metal being prepared for holes, trim, slices and etc. The CNC machine will have a computer program that allows the operator to enter measurements for exact hole placement, run a test product followed by precise testing and measurements with a form of calibration tool. If the shop has been hired to drill five hundred plates for an automobile manufacture and they fail to calibrate the initial product, the part will be deemed unusable and could cost the company thousands of dollars. The use of test and measurement equipment is essential in any company where precision is required.
