In Soil Testing
In soil, testing is a soil test to analyze a soil sample. This process is used to determine the nutrients, composition, and other factors of the soil. One reason in soil testing is used is to determine if there are any contaminants in the soil that could be harmful. The tests are also used to measure the fertility of the soil for farming. Soil testing requires a professional to be on hand in order to complete the test accurately.
When you perform in soil testing, you should have 10 to 20 samples for every 40 acres. It allows for a wide spread and thorough examination of the soil. Each time you take a sample you do have to worry about cross contamination, which means you need to clean the tool thoroughly. It should be free of rust and washed with distilled water. This keeps the in soil testing uncontaminated to give you the proper results.
One reason a professional should do the in soil testing is due to the factors that are involved in the testing. Sample depth is imperative. You need to take a sample from the tillage depth, where most of the nutrients will be. If you go too deep or shallow, you might not receive a proper result.
In soil testing samples should be tested within 24 hours. Characteristics of soil can change due to exposure to weather and even chemical activity. If you cannot test it right away, you should freeze it. If more than six months will go by you will need to air dry the sample.
Typical commercial labs are the people who will do the soil testing. However, you can do in soil testing in which you take samples to test outside of the lab. Tests will normally look for nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium. Other nutrients that are tested for include sulphur, calcium, magnesium, copper, zinc, iron, and aluminum. Contaminants that are looked for include benzene, toluene, petroleum hydrocarbons, and xylene. If you want to perform in soil testing, you can purchase prepaid mail in kits to do your own testing without the high expense of the lab.
