There is a wide variety of equipment for exercise including but not limited to equipment for home gyms, trademills, ellypticals, and exercise bikes. Technology has completely revolutionized human lifestyle solving many problems but also creating new ones. With technology have come vehicles which imply we no longer have to walk long distances. Several machines have been developed to help us do much work at home or in offices. Food production was labor intensive for a long time requiring lots of man hours and man power but has seen considerable progress leaving us with more time and less work to do. Early human societies were 100 per cent dependent on agricultural economy but today this has reduced in some cases up to 4 per cent.

The invention of machines reducing labor requirement has meant that we are left with less physical work to do denying the body opportunities to exercise which is essential for our well being. The inventors of farm machinery equipment sought to make work easy and probably thought that humans could have all time to rest or work leisurely. But it turns out that resting throughout is just as bad as working throughout. This created the need to develop equipment for exercise which would enable human beings do specific exercises to improve their health quite within their homes or in gyms. Security and weather conditions also contributed towards the development of exercise equipment as it may not be safe walking or running in some localities or sometimes extreme winters or summer heat may simply encourage laziness.

Equipments for exercise take care of various needs of exercise for different body parts and for different purposes of exercising. Some people may be exercising to reduce their tummies, others may be exercising to strengthen their muscles for certain sports, others exercise to reduce overall body weights while others also exercise to keep fit and avoid potential overweight problems.

It is for the reasons above that equipments for exercise have been designed to suit specific needs of certain body parts and desired effects. There are abdominal exercise equipment, children fitness equipment, thermal suits, forearm equipment, waist trimmers, exercise mats, exercise balls, exercise bands, yoga products, free weights, ankle weights, balancing boards and the list is endless.

Some equipment have been designed for self use while others require professional trainers. Some are designed for home use while others are designed for gyms. And it is important to note that there are many manufacturers in this field and we are yet to see more.
