Making the bathrooms can be a very tricky business for persons who do not exactly know how to go about the business. It becomes even more complex when you are dealing with the art of making a bathroom for persons who need special care either because they are disabled in one way or they may be elderly and need to be supported at all times. Taking into consideration the plight of persons with disabilities, the US government came up with legislation that set standards for the requirements of bathrooms for persons with disabilities. This legislation came up with what is commonly known as the ADA bat6hroom standards. ADA means Americans with disabilities Act.

When living with a disabled person within your house hold, it is mandatory to observe the ADA rules in the construction of your bathroom so that the disabled person can be able to use it with the least of difficulty. This calls for some serious considerations in the way some fittings and the entire bathroom is designed. All such fittings must be positioned at heights that can be accessible form the wheel chair. A very significant point that cannot be overlooked when designing ADA bathrooms is the space within the bathroom. All bathrooms designed for use by people with disabilities must be able to have space enough to accommodate the wheelchair within without preventing the disabled person from being able to use the bathroom facilities.

It is very important to fit cabinets and sinks at levels that can be reached by anybody sitting on a wheel chair so that they do not have to call for help to get at toothpastes and toiletries that are within the bathroom space.
