Sometimes, while designing a new bathroom or while redesigning an old one not much attention is paid to type of taps that going to be used, but the fact is that taps do play an equally important role in enhancing the ambience and elegance of any bathroom. Bathroom mixer taps are one of such kinds of taps are have become integral part of most modern bathrooms. The most basic function of bathroom mixer tap is give out either hot or cold water or a combination of both using one or more faucets. A variety of bathroom mixer taps are available in the market which take into account the individual tastes of the buyers.

Bathroom mixer taps are basically of three types, firstly there is the Mixer taps which mix the hot and cold water before it reaches the faucet and the flow and the temperature is controlled manually using a ceramic valve. Secondly, there are Thermostatic mixer tap which uses a thermostatic valve to adjust the temperature of the hot and cold water at the desired temperature. The temperature of the water remains constant even if there is any fluctuation in the water pressure. The third type of bathroom mixer tap is the Filler tap, this type mixes the hot and cold water inside the faucet, the hot or the cold water can be adjusted manually for the desired temperature.

The placement of the different types of the taps depends on the type of bathroom mixer taps being used. Either the hot, cold water taps and the bathroom mixer tap can be placed close together all passing through a single hole to save space and look neat and tidy or the hot and cold water taps can each their own space with the bathroom mixer tap having a hole of its and the three can then be connected with a pipe either passing underneath or above them.

The most common valves which are used in the bathroom mixer taps to control the temperature and flow of the hot and cold water are: Mechanical valves, which a conventional valves using rubber washer seals. These seals wear out fast but can be easily replaced. Then there are bathroom mixer taps with ceramic disc valve which use a ceramic washer that acts like a water tight seal and requires minimum maintenance. Ceramic disc cartridge is the third type of valve used in bathroom mixer taps. This cartridge is a part of single lever tap and requires very low maintenance. So with the variety of bathroom mixer taps available in the market a consumer is sure to get one that suits his personal requirement and budget.
