Lighting For Bathroom

Bathroom Lighting is perhaps the most important aspect to look into apart from the main bathroom components. However well you decorate it, all falls flat without the proper lighting. In simpler terms, it is what helps you in projecting your bathroom as classy and sophisticated, sparkling, charming or fun.

The main types of bathroom lighting can be overhead lighting, which lights up your entire bathroom; diffused lighting mainly used over bath tubs and shower cubicles or special function lights aims at mirrors or to bring out a certain aspect in the room. Whatever be it, these are found in myriad shapes, sizes and styles in today’s era of modern designer bathrooms.

In talking about the light fixtures, the most common and popular ones are the bar light and scones. While bar lights are round white bars used mainly for providing overhead light or diffused light in areas like top of the mirrors, etc, scones are ‘one shade and one lamp’ fixtures used in other parts as the house as well. A general trend is to put two scones on each side of your mirror at the eye level. Recessed lighting on the other hand is involved with putting flat and round lighting fixtures enmeshed with the ceiling. The advantage of this is that since they do not have any part of them hanging outside, moisture and dust do not affect them at all.

Bathroom lighting can be said to be the most crucial in cases where there is not much space. Though smaller bathrooms can be termed as cozy but without proper lighting it has a high chance of getting claustrophobic. Selecting a pale color scheme along with additional lighting will help in providing an illusion of larger space. The best lighting ideas in this regard are, put up recessed lighting in your ceilings focusing on particular areas where work is done in the bathroom. In addition, put scones and other diffused lightings beside mirrors, above the bath, etc. Lastly, a lamp on top of the cabinet will make the picture complete.

Thus, it is important that you have the correct and uniform combination of the different type of lighting. Without a correct combination, your bathroom might become shadowy and going about it may become tough, especially for guests. Hence bright and well focused recessed lighting along with diffused lighting at eye levels preferably using mirror surfaces to create multiplier effect along with bars, countertop lamps or chandelier, are your way to your heaven at home.
