When it comes to cleaning, you might think is an easy guess, but the action is not as easy as has been put. Cedar is softwood and you therefore need to give it some tender loving care when cleaning it. Don't use abrasives. Some good old regular soap and water cleaning will do. If you live in a dusty place; you need to wash them with some brush to remove the dirt.

As has been mentioned before, cedar is softwood meaning that it has a high chance of getting split or warping. You want to protect it from the sun so that it does not lose its precious shade of red to the sun. There are hundreds of products in the market that can be used to block the wood from getting heated by the UV rays of the sun.

You may change the color of the cedar by staining it, a procedure that is irreversible. The stainers are also UV blockers and this is a way of killing two birds with one stone. You don't have to change the color of your red cedar; you may apply clear stainer instead and prevent it from UV rays at the same time. To prevent the cedar from getting eaten by pests and subsequently losing its strength, you may treat the red cedar chemically to prevent this kind of loss to the pests.
