Mosaic Outdoor Tables
There are several materials that one can use to cheaply come up with a beautiful mosaic table. The materials include broken glass or china. The table surfaces that you can choose to work on can be made of wood, glass or even metal.
1. Clean the surface of the table thoroughly. If the table is metallic, remove rust using chemical agents and apply chemicals that will prevent more rusting. Wood and glass surfaces should be cleaned with soap and water.
2. Look for old china ware or glass ware. You can easily find these in your basement or garage. The material should consist of attractive colors. Clean them to remove dirt that has stuck fast. Now take them outside and break them into bits in between layers of newspaper. Use a hammer for this purpose. Remember to put on protective eye wear to prevent broken pieces from hurting your eyes.
3. Pick larger pieces to work with. Take measurements of the table to find out the center then mark it out. It is best to begin working from the middle as you advance towards the outer parts of the table. Use a strong adhesive to hold the pieces into place. Have definite shapes for the middle area of the table then fill up the other remaining parts with similar pieces of the glass or china ware.
4. The spaces that are left in between the mosaic tables should be stuffed with grout to give them a permanent hold. After the finished table is dry, wipe off the grout and bits of mosaic material using a cleaner. Apply a coat of polish or varnish to the surface to reduce the effects of weather on the table surface.
5. Bits and pieces of the mosaic surface that begin to fall out with time should be replaced immediately to avoid giving way to more of them coming out.
6. You have to clean your mosaic outdoor tables every now and then to make them long lasting. Use plenty of soap and water to wash off dirt that has stuck to the surface of the table. If the varnish on the table top begins to wear out, remove all of it and reapply fresh coats of veneer and polish it to maintain a high level of shine. Wipe off any layer of dust that might have settled on the tables each morning as part of your routine cleaning process.
