'Outdoor guide schools' is the other name given to outdoor camps which are set up during the vacations to create awareness of many phenomena amongst people of a certain age group. This kind of education is outside the normal school education. They are taught skills that they normally won't be taught in class. They are taught very many useful skills and to socialize at the same time. In the fast paced society we live in, there is no communal life, but rather individualism. Everyone is in a hurry to get themselves an education, a home, a family a job etc. There is no time for anything else! In our quest to fill ourselves up, we fail to allocate time to train our children to have these skills, which are then taught in these camps. Although initially made for children, the outdoor guide schools have also been designed for adults.

One of the main targets of these schools is the development of positive self esteem and self image. The American society is full of children, teenagers, young adults and middle-aged adults with self esteem issues, which are preventing them from leading wholesome lives. Some have gone to extremes which manifest themselves as eating disorders or drug and alcohol addiction. The development of positive self image will help a young adult overcome their major challenges and realize their potential.

Spirituality is a subject that is touched in these outdoor schools. Although it is sensitive and has raised a lot of emotions and reactions, it has been said that the desire to connect with a higher power is inherent in all human beings, and once this has been achieved, an individual is capable of living a wholesome and more productive life. This has been seen in many individuals who report positive results. Aside from spirituality is team building and cooperation toward s the achievement of a goal. While some people don't see the use of training small kids on becoming team players; there is a school of thought that says that lack of this kind of direction and training is what has made many of these children control freaks.

These schools are run by professionals who range from counselors, teachers, spiritual leaders, nutritionists and even parents. The programs are cheap and target specific age groups at a time. This kind of education is positive and is guaranteed to give your child a wholesome outlook towards life.
