Teak can also resist fungal infestations, and is highly resistant to rot. The natural oil also acts as a repellant for many insects which otherwise would destroy wood like termites. Teak is one of the densest and heaviest woods and has a straight or wavy grain. The original color is yellowish honey color and with exposure to sunlight it will turn to grayish silver. This color will stay throughout and the wood will maintain its form without any warping or splintering. For people who prefer a darker brown color for their teak timber outdoor furniture; teak oil is rubbed into the wood. To maintain this color the procedure has to be repeated at least once a year. The teak oil will make the wood even more resistant to insects and the weather.

Timber outdoor furniture is also available in pine and cedar, which are also quite sturdy woods. White cedar is usually used for chairs and lounge chairs and the natural white color lends a good appearance.
