Flexible Track Lighting

The alternative to the traditional lamp fixtures and shades is track lighting. Such lighting systems make use of electrical wiring that is concealed inside an aluminum or plastic track. Once the track has been mounted up on the ceiling or wall, a lamp and socket can be fixed on the track. When the metal plates in the socket come into contact with the wiring of the track, the light bulb is activated. Track lighting is most useful when traditional lighting is either ambiguous or unaesthetic. It is especially useful in highlighting artwork where it can be used as floodlights or spotlights.

Track lights are stylish as well as affordable and can transform your home. The best thing about track lights is that it can be controlled on an individual basis. You can choose to light only two bulbs for spot lighting or for a romantic ambience. Alternatively, you can switch on all the lights at once and create a dazzle. Some homemakers and designers use track lighting to generate a light and shade effect. Though track lighting has been used for a long time now, newer systems have made it more appealing. They are no longer bulky. When buying track lighting systems look for those with built in transformers. These are more attractive and offer low voltage. Low voltage track system use halogen bulbs, which emit a crisp, white glow as opposed to the yellow light emitted by incandescent bulbs. They also make track lighting more affordable by using less power.

Track lighting is a good option for the kitchen. It not only makes the kitchen brighter but also helps in task lighting. With task lighting, it is possible to illuminate those areas, which would otherwise be in darkness. For example, while cooking, the stovetop can be illuminated and while washing, the sink. It is relatively easy to install track lights. You can install it on your own by following simple instructions given in the manual that comes with the track lighting kit. Do keep in mind that a track lighting system has some limitations. For example, it is not possible to dim a single bulb. The whole row of lights attached to the dimmer will have to be dimmed. The track light fixtures are visible and become illuminated with the light. If you have a large kitchen, track lighting will require several layers of light. Another demerit of flexible track lighting is that the transformers may burn out.
