In history, when lights were invented, the only function of it is to lighten up houses during night time, a mere substitute to the Sun. But as the years gone by, it becomes a helping hand for artistic ventures such as film and photography. Lights also enhance visual effects during concerts, plays, recitals, and likes. These have been its function in the modern day generation.

The impact of colors is based on the combination of three factors: Hue, saturation, and luminance. Hue is the actual shade of the color. Saturation, on the other hand, is the level of purity of the color. Lastly, luminance is the described as how light or dark the color appears from its original state. These factors should be considered on lighting. Different combinations will result to different impacts.

More than anything else, it expresses the kind of mood it wants to portray. By mere changing the color of lights, it can also change the atmosphere of a place.

Proper coordination and combination of colors in lights is important to avoid overshadowing. Overshadowing is the alteration of luminance of colors. It simply describes a situation where colors cannot be seen fully because of the shadows that resulted from one way light. If this will happen, color may appear darker and light effects would not take into place. To avoid such dilemma, proper placement of colored lights should be done. This prevents blocking of lights.

Light and color go together to produce more desired output. A single colored light with no other shade complementing it will always appear pale and dull. May it be functional or artistic lighting; color becomes a vital part of lighting system, proving light with life.
