The light from the sun is necessary for energy and provides much needed life to the earth in general. Light therapy has been a source used in healing many physically illnesses for centuries. Lights such as ultraviolet, full spectrum, lasers and colors are excellent choices for use in therapy.

Sunlight which is the oldest natural form of light therapy is also the source of full spectrum light. Through out history color in halls was Egypt, China and India’s source for healing. Psychological research has be done to determine the strength of various colors in psychological healing with results showing that blue has a calming effect and red lights will stimulate.

Alternative health care uses the power of light in many uses such as harmony and balance. The sun is responsible for more than providing light it also is need for cellular healing or repair. Solar energy works great for reducing fatigue, improving sleep, easing depression and strengthens the immune system.

The sun emits ultraviolet light which can be harmful to the body while infrared light will almost do the opposite by healing or repairing damage to tissues and cells in the body. Infrared light has been used for therapeutic purposes for centuries. Research has found that the infrared light is beneficial in promoting a good blood circulation, eases pain, reduces stiffness in joints, helps the cardiovascular system and will help to revitalize the skin cells.

Depression is extremely difficult to treat with the majority of those diagnosed having to take many different medications in order to find one that may work. SAD is a seasonal disorder where people become severely depressed during winter months or other long periods of time where they do no receive any or little amounts of sunlight. Using light therapy provides extremely quick relief to those who endure the diagnosis of SAD.

A full spectrum light box is used to treat the diagnosis. This box can be purchased in many different locations. There are some specifics to look for when searching. The full light spectrum should have an illumination of 10,000 lux. They should have been clinically tested and have a diffusing screen to filter the ultra violet rays. Also opt for a full spectrum light source with white or blue lights. These are the only color lights that will work. If you have found a spectrum box with a different light source it most likely will not serve the same purpose.
