String of lights is described as a long chain which contains light bulbs in series; this type of light is commonly seen in decorations or in hotels. The string of lights can be laid out in a building in any shape or direction and hence it is the most sought type among the decoration lights.

There are different types of string lights available in the stores today; the size of the bulb used in them also varies. String lights are easy to get and they are available in different lengths, used mostly in all countries when a grand building needs to be decorated. These days the string of lights is available in different colors, in earlier days it was available only in yellow color. But today the strings of lights are available in many colors and designs.

In olden days the bulbs used in the string lights were usually spherical shaped, but today there are different shapes of bulbs employed in the string of lights. For Christmas trees a string of lights with star shaped bulb or oval shaped bulb are used. And for decorating the buildings, the good old sphere shaped or round bulbs are used. For special uses a string of lights for a great length can be ordered and bought.

Since the string of lights are mostly used in outdoor environments, these days there are string of lights manufactured which are weather proof. They do not get short circuited or damaged in any other way due to weather. The wire used for stringing the lights together is also made in different colors because it can be camouflaged. In a Christmas tree the string of lights are made with a green or black colored wire so that the wire cannot be noticed easily from a distance.

Some of the varieties of string of lights that are available today are solar string lights, incandescent string lights, solar string lights, marine rope string lights and LED string lights. These are some of the fancy varieties of string lights that are used for special occasions or places. There are string lights which has bulbs that are enclosed in plastic material. The plastic casings are of different shapes such as animals or birds. They are used for specific purposes, most of these string lights are used for outdoor decorations. Some of these types of string lights are powered by battery instead of electricity.
