Do It Yourself Kitchen Cabinets
Kitchen cabinets can be installed all by yourself if you have patience, skill and an urge to save money. The first thing about do it yourself kitchen cabinets is to plan your kitchen cabinet. Planning doesn’t mean how to construct a cabinet, but to decide on the type of cabinet you are going to construct, whether you need drawers, the number of layers needed, the type of wood to be used etc.
After you have planned, assemble all the required items and equipments. The necessary items and equipments needed are wood panels and doors for your kitchen cabinet, hacksaw, jigsaw, a boring tool, level, clamps, screws, screwdrivers, hinges, knobs, sandpaper, glue etc. Additional equipments and items would be needed in case you want to add more functionality on the cabinet you are constructing. For example, if you want drawers in it, you would invariably need drawing sliders as an additional item for your construction. So think of all these before assembling the equipments.
Once you have assembled everything, it is time to get started. But before that you will have to take some precautionary measures like wearing the safety glasses, gloves etc. Cut the wooden panels into the required sizes using the hacksaw. (The size of the panels has to be decided in the planning stage itself). There are specific panels i.e. the door panels, the back panels, the frame panels etc. And you will have to cut the plywood accordingly. After you have cut everything to perfection, the next step is to assemble the carcass. Carcass is nothing but the skeleton of the cabinet.
Assembling of the carcass has to be done carefully as well because it is what decides on the shape and size of your cabinet. So take extreme care while you drill the holes and insert the screws to construct the carcass. Make sure that the carcass is strong and sturdy. The door is the one which is left out now. You will have to attach the door hinges and the knobs into it. It can be done quite easily as well. All the procedure involved in this passage requires extreme caution.
The next step is to attach the door as well. Thus a cabinet has been constructed on your own. The final step would be the finishing step where you would apply finishes in order to improve the shine and appearance of your constructed cabinet.
