Resurfacing Kitchen Cabinets

Resurfacing kitchen cabinets is the most inexpensive way to remodel a kitchen. It is simply the process of covering over already existing kitchen cabinets with new laminate or wood veneer. This way, you can be able to turn an old looking, worn out kitchen into a room that can add great value to your home. In other words, it is giving your kitchen cabinetry a face lift so to speak.

When resurfacing kitchen cabinets, you can replace the fronts with new attractive doors and new drawer fronts. This way, your kitchen can change and take a whole new attractive look. Laminating all exposed surfaces of the kitchen cabinets using a self-adhesive back is another way of resurfacing kitchen cabinets.

Note that there is a difference, albeit subtle, between resurfacing kitchen cabinets and refinishing kitchen cabinets. What both do is to give your kitchen a new look but refinishing is more about re-coating or repairing the existing laminate or the surface layer of the cabinets, rather than stripping off the old badly damaged laminate and putting a new product to the existing kitchen cabinet.

The actual resurfacing kitchen cabinets process may use one of two methods. For a shoddily damaged surface, the most likely approach would be to completely remove the laminate covering, stripping off the underlying glue. Once the entire bare surface is left clear and clean, it will be easier to spread an even coat of new glue and new laminate panel.

The other approach to resurfacing kitchen cabinets doesn’t call for the removal of the entire laminate. If the laminate is still in good condition, you can decide to thoroughly clean the surfaces, then using a sandpaper scratch to remove any debris and dust created by the sanding, you can then go ahead and spread an even layer of glue on the surface, and then place new laminate directly over the old laminate.

Depending on the number of kitchen cabinets that need resurfacing, it may be a good idea for two people to work on resurfacing kitchen cabinets project. This not only cuts the actual time it takes to do the actual work, but it will also make it easier to place the new laminate or apply new wood veneer in exactly the ideal position before the new laminate starts to bind the new covering.
