Remodeling the kitchen is often considered an intensive task, especially when you have to re-do everything from the flooring to the cabinetry. But what about when your budget is rather limited, do you give up the whole project altogether? When you don’t feel enthusiastic on taking a home loan to fund the remodeling, and only have a couple of thousands saved up, you can still transform your kitchen using some small remodeling ideas.

First is to start off with the flooring. This is when your floor is begging for a makeover. Usually, when you choose to go down the hardwood path, it will cost you. A cheaper option is to go for stick tiles. They are inexpensive and very easy to clean. The second part is with the cabinetry. Stripping down your whole cabinetry and replacing it is not exactly a small idea. It is budget intensive and unnecessary when your cabinets are in proper working order. To give them a new look, you could choose to repaint them or get a new finish for them. Replace the cabinet doors that are dented or getting loose at the hinges. For the top cabinets, adding a little glass to the door gives them a new look.

You might also want to consider getting a new sink and a bigger one if possible. A bigger sink eases the cleaning of larger utensils, and acts as a utility area. It’s especially important if you are not usually alone in the kitchen.

Another remodeling idea is to increase the working space. This can be done by first clearing the clutter on the countertops and the kitchen island. Try installing some pull out shelves for some of your appliances, like the food processor and the microwave. Having the bigger appliances fitted into your cabinetry also helps free more space. The stove and dishwasher are always in sync with the cabinetry, but some people make exceptions for the refrigerator. It should go into some dedicated cabinet space as well.

With new lighting fixtures, you can create the illusion of extra space. Try experimenting with pendant lights or spot lights for your kitchen island. In addition you can get some fan lights, or depressed ceiling lights for your task illumination needs. The only costs you have to meet are for the electrician, and for buying new fixtures. Putting these and other small ideas together can help you transform your kitchen in a dramatic way. And the best part of all is that it doesn’t cost you much either.
