Light emitting diode or the led for short is originally a Russian invention it was previously used only as indicator lights in many devices but with increasing development led is used for lighting. The US started using led rope lights as early as 1960. Led rope lights are actually led bulbs put together in the form of a string or rope and they light up large areas with little emissions. Previously led rope lights were available only in red color but modern led rope lights come in high brightness, numerous colors, patterns and wavelengths. Led basically are tiny light bulbs, have no filament, consume less energy, produce less heat and last longer.

With led entering the lighting market led rope lights started being utilized as decorative light. Led rope lights are very flexible mode of light not only physically but also in their usage, they can be used indoors as well as outdoors, other then being environment friendly they are durable, efficient and almost unbreakable. Very low voltage is required for a Led rope light and to top it all they are waterproof.

Decoration is not the sole purpose of led rope lights they are also perfect when you are looking for a cozy night atmosphere. They can also lighten up the front yard or a fence or the entire walkways. The usages are numerous how these lights is to be utilized is a personal preference. Led rope lights can very efficiently be utilized inside the house because they emit very low heat and they have a very long life of almost 10 years and they are almost maintenance free. Also it is a known fact that the temperature around any electrical equipment largely effects its life span, as the led rope lights themselves emit low heat the temperature around them is automatically cooler and it is one of the factors which also contributes for their long life.

The only drawback of led rope light is the cost factor. These lights are more expensive as compared to other rope lights and there is a valid reason for this. The manufacturing process of led rope light bulbs is not the same as that of traditional light bulbs as led bulbs are solid state light bulbs as compared to incandescent or krypton bulbs. This is the only disadvantage evident when a comparison is made between conventional light bulbs and led rope light. It is no wonder then that the high heat emitting, high voltage, expensive neon lights have steadily been replaced by led rope lights.
