The Biomedical equipment technician is qualified in handling installation, functions, repairs, maintenance, and calibration of biomedical electronic equipment. They are also well-qualified demonstrators in the mechanism and the functions of this type of equipment and frequently present demonstrations to health students and related staff. They also rectify emergency problems affecting this equipment and are occasionally assigned to design new parts, or equipment in the field.

The Food and Drug Administration of the USA are the administrative entity that governs clinical devices and related technologies. Other such regulatory frame works are under the National Fire Projection Agency, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care Standards and the US governmental registry of biomedical devices. Many other countries have identical regulatory frameworks to govern medical equipments manufacturing, exporting, maintenance etc.

The biomedical equipment technicians also work in the military as well. They get comprehensive training to all the related technologies from the relevant army universities. In addition, they get training in defense matters as well.
