When we are in the hospital, we see too many types of equipment. We cannot determine those equipments if they are medical diagnostic, therapeutic, or life support equipments but let’s focus on medical diagnostic equipment. Medical Diagnostic Equipment (MDE), is use to check body organs’ condition. Examples of this type of equipment are: Ultrasound, Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanners, and the widely-known X-Ray Machine. Let’s chunk our discussion by using those MDEs that I’ve mentioned.

Ultrasound scanners are used to visualize subcutaneous body structures including tendons, muscles, joints, vessels and internal organs for possible pathology or lesions. These are use in different fields of medicine such as cardiology, gastroenterology, gynaecology, neurology, obstetrics, ophthalmology, urology, and musculoskeletal studies. It can also be used to clean teeth in dental hygiene. Focused ultrasound may be used to break up kidney stones through lithotripsy.

PET scanner is both a medical and research tool. It is an important research tool to map normal human brain and heart function. This is particularly valuable in cancer research, as it results in an increase in the statistical quality of the data (subjects can act as their own control) and substantially reduces the numbers of animals required for a given study.

CT Scanners are use to detect if a person’s brain has been injured or not. It detects the following: bleeding, brain injury and skull fractures, bleeding due to a ruptured/leaking aneurysm in a patient with a sudden severe headache, blood clot or bleeding within the brain shortly after a patient exhibits symptoms of a stroke, and brain tumours.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging is most commonly used in radiology to visualize detailed internal structure and limited function of the body. This type of MDE is popular in sport professional leagues. This is use to check if a player suffers fracture or just sprain.

X-rays have been developed for their use in medical imaging. The chest X-ray is the most common kind , which can be used to identify lung diseases such as pneumonia, lung cancer, asthma and bronchitis.

Medical Diagnostic Equipments can easily detect disease or injury incurred of a person. But the doctors make sure that the patients should not be injured because of the radiation chemicals that comprise on the equipments. There are a lot more medical equipments in the field that suits the various needs of the human body. It all depends on what you want and need.
