Ultrasound Medical Equipment

Children bring a smile and a blessing to even the coldest of hearts. In a way, it is God’s way of telling us there is still hope for a possible bright future. A mother is given the responsibility of taking care of this delicate life growing inside her. Even before delivery, the baby needs extra attention to ensure that they turn out into healthy human beings. That is why all mothers are advised to attend antenatal care as a precaution for ant unforeseen complications that may develop with the baby or the mother along the way.

However, if a pregnant mother does not care for herself during pregnancy, she may risk her own life and that of her unborn baby. As early as during the 1st tri-mister, pregnant mothers are advised to go for an ultra-sound. The ultra sound helps the doctor to monitor the growth of the embryo.

The ultra sound medical equipment works like a scanning machine. It produces sound waves that that create a picture of the body organs. The obstetrician is able to see the baby’s position, the placenta, ovaries and the amniotic sac. The ultra sound is also called the obstetric ultrasound or the pregnancy sonogram. The obstetrician is able to identify abnormalities in the growing baby or in the mother’s womb.

The procedure is totally harmless and painless for both mother and child. Since the ultrasound medical equipment uses no form of radiation exposure, the procedure has no side effects.

Ultrasounds can be done at any stage of pregnancy depending on the doctor’s advice or the mother’s wishes. During the 1st trimester, the doctor checks the number of embryo growing in the uterus, determines the date of delivery and the gestation stage of the pregnancy.

In the 2nd trimester, the doctor monitors the baby’s sex, the growth of its physical vital features and the position of the placenta. The placenta should not be obstructing the cervix as this can cause complications during birth for both mother and child.

There is a popular belief that mothers who drink a lot of water an hour before an ultra sound get clearer images of the baby from the procedure. However, this has proven to be a misconception since the final result of the ultra sound is determined by the type of ultra sound conducted and whether the ultra sound was conducted correctly.

There are several types of ultra sounds including: Transabdominal ultrasound and the vaginal ultrasound or the trans-vaginal ultrasound scanning
