If you think that all ergonomic office chairs are created equal, think again. What kind of ergo chair you end up buying should depend on what type use job you have and how much time you will be sitting in it. There are several types and each is designed to assist you when you are using it a certain way.

The first type of ergo chair, and probably the most common, is the Executive Office Chair. This chair is usually made of leather and has a high back. Good models have adjustable head rests and arm supports and usually has some sort of knee tilt device to assist the user if they want to recline. These chairs are usually heavily upholstered and made for long sessions of sitting.

Another type of ergo chair is the Intensive-Use-Chair which is designed for sitting 24/7. This type of chair is used for people who spend most, if not all, of their time sitting like 911 emergency services, security monitoring people, or control rooms. These are very durable units and are very easy to spend long periods in. They are also designed in such a way as to keep the user alert while sitting in the chair.

If you work in a medical facility or a laboratory of some type you know that your sitting needs are sometimes different. Most such facilities use ergonomic stools. These stools may or may not have armrests but they usually have foot rests. Another chair type in this category is medical chairs and dental chairs, both of which have adjustable heights and inflatable lumbar support.

There are also ergonomic chairs for use at a computer station and industrial chairs that are designed for hard use in possibly toxic or dirty environments.

If you are going to spend a great deal of time in your chair, and most people who use these chairs spend a great deal of time in them, you will need to get the chair that has the best features for your need. The most common is the Executive chair but, as we have seen above, there are many other types, some of which would be perfect for your particular need. There are many different types and it is better to find the one suited for your needs.
