Ergonomic Recliner Chair

An ergonomic recliner chair would be useful for people who wish to take some well needed rest, normally not for those who may be working.

It is very important for you to have the correct posture whether you are sitting, working or sleeping (for instance if you are sleeping, with a high pillow, you could end up with a crick when you get up in the morning). It is especially important for you to pay particular attention to the lower back and ensure that there is sufficient and proper lumbar support, especially for people who already have back or neck pain, the focus should be on using the correct chair which can be adjusted to your back so that the pain which you already have does not get further aggravated.

While working, one would need an ergonomic chair which will be more or less straight so that you do not slouch and there is minimum discomfort to your back during your long work hours at your desk. While relaxing or resting, it is important that you choose a good ergonomic reclining chair that can be adjusted well to the particular shape of your back so that your back gets rest and not any strain.

One way out for this would be to opt for the zero gravity recliner – as the name suggests, this chair would recline till the point where the stress your back is experiencing would come down to zero.

Zero gravity decline was basically developed by scientists at NASA (National Aeronautical Space Administration) to reduce the strain on the backs of the astronauts, especially, during takeoff and to some extent also, in space. When you are in an upright position, whether you are standing or sitting, there is bound to be some stress on your spine – with the result, the discs get compressed and the muscles also contract in order for you to maintain balance. When gravity gets neutralized, then the back muscles get the much needed rest and the discs would return gradually to their normal shape.

What zero gravity does is, that it helps to extend lower legs to a position above the heart so that the neutralized gravity effect on the back can get achieved – what this helps in doing is, that :

1. It helps to correct the alignment of the spine.

2. It reduces the pressure and strain on the back.

3. There would be lesser tension on the muscles.

4. Also, lesser pressure on the heart.

5. And lastly, better circulation of the blood.

The “zero gravity” position is also sometimes, referred to as the 90/90 position, in view of the right angles which are formed at the hips and at the knees.
