* chrome plating

* painted

* brass

* anodized

Chrome plating is thin and if it gets scratched it may rust, but durable.  Paint finishes can be easily scratched and, therefore, rust very easily.  Plastic coatings will also percent rust and color change.  Brass is durable, but, can be very expensive.  If you choose brass you will want to give it a coat of clear finish, preferably, with plastic.   Lastly, anodized finishes are hard to scratch and durable, but it can wear very easily because it is thin. 

When purchasing your steel folding chairs makes sure that the surface of the chair is powder coated, it will be maintenance free when baked into the steel and not just painted on.   

Always make sure you protect your steel folding chairs from the harsh winter weather by covering it with plastic furniture covers or vinyl.  Make sure to repair and damages quickly to prevent rust.
