Swivel Chair Ottoman

I spend all of my day sitting down, working at a computer screen. When I get home the one thing I really love to do is to relax in my recliner with my feet up. I am sort of a do it yourselfer though and decided to build my own ottoman to go with my swivel chair at home.

The first thing I did was built the frame. I used a piece of ¾” plywood that was 15” X 15” to give my feet enough room to be comfortable. You will need two pieces, one for the top and one for the bottom. You will then need four pieces of 15” X 20” for the sides. Once you have these cut, glue them into a box and then secure it all with screws.

Now that you have your frame put together you will need to cut foam padding to match the eight sides, wrap them in leather or fabric of some sort and glue them to the frame. Once the glue has dried you can use a staple gun secure the corners of each piece of foam. This will bunch corners nicely giving your ottoman a plush look.

Now you can add castors to the bottom of your ottoman. You want to get castors with swivels so that the ottoman will swivel to the same tune as your chair.

Your swivel chair ottoman will need regular cleaning and what you use to clean it and how often you it will depend on the material it is made of and what kind of use you put it too. Leather is more durable than any other materials and is much easier to clean than any other material.

You also have the option of going out and buying an ottoman for your swivel chair. They are easy to find but not so easy to purchase alone. Most furniture stores want to sell the ottoman with a chair so as not to break up a set. Some stores have a selection of separate ottomans and they usually have several of each different material possibility. You can also look on the internet and find a decent selection there also.
