Welding is a method of soldering pipes or other metal object or even cutting them. The earliest methods to weld metals together was to heat them and when the metals get hot enough to melt and when such melting happens another substance is sometimes added to keep the two pieces together. The substance added depends on the kind of metals that are being welded. A wielding torch is a colloquial term for a blowtorch, which is a two cylinder apparatus that is usually used in welding.  However, single-tank torches are also there but there are not usually capable of producing enough heat to actually weld any metal together but are used mostly for cutting through metals. The torch is the apparatus used by the welder that controls the direction and amount of heat released on to the surface of the metal. There are many kinds of torches that are primarily named after their function. There is the welding torch, the cutting torch, the rose bud torch and the injector torch. The welding torch is used for welding and has two cylinders, one for the gas and the other for the oxygen. These kinds of torches are also called oxy-fuel torches. The cutting torch is used in cutting metals. The rose bud torch is mainly used to bend or straighten metals after heating them.

There are a variety of fuels that are used in the torches that range from the most common being acetylene, hydrogen, LPG and even propane. Propane torches are not really used in welding, as they do not heat metals to a very high temperature. Propane torches are readily available at any hardware store and are a great handy tool to be kept in the house in case of any small welding fixes to be made. A propane torch also comes in handy in case there is a screw that has been stuck due to rust. If the screw is heated a little and then turned, it comes out much easier and can save you a lot of effort. When using any kind of instrument for welding please make sure you are careful. Wearing protective goggles avoids damage that the sparks can cause the eyes and wearing protective gloves protect the hands from damage. Make sure you check the instruments before you use them for any leaks to avoid any accidents. Being careful and use a respirator to avoid inhaling the dangerous fumes.
