There has been some debate as to which is better, propane or charcoal grill. Let us attempt to decide that.

First, let us have a look at what the proponents of propane grill have to say. Today about three-fourths of the people who camp and eat out use a propane grill for barbeques.

The first advantage would be the ease of use and the speed factor. When one is ready to use a barbeque, then all that you need to get started is to turn on the gas tank, press the starter button and you are ready to go (no loading the black charcoals, getting your hands and clothes dirty, lighting firewood, then waiting for maybe ages to get your steak done, the way you want it). You would not like to use precious time of your holiday only preparing to get your food ready; some time is alright, but not too much.

The second advantage is that you can use your grill at any time, even if it is very cold or raining – you can still start your propane grill quickly – if it is raining, then all you need to do is quickly move it inside and resume the heating process – not very messy and time consuming.

The third advantage is the facility of an inbuilt thermostat where you can monitor the temperature and can adjust it accordingly if the need arises - obviously, this facility will not be there in a charcoal grill.

The fourth advantage and this is really good is that you can cook different types of food which may need different temperatures - the reason is that you have different sections and control for each section where you can adjust the temperatures individually. Some propane grills will not only have temperatures for each side but also for the back and the front thus making it more conveneient for the cook. For some of the propane models, you will also have a pot burner which is useful to heat certain types of vegetables such as beans.

The fifth advantage would be that just as you can begin more quickly with a propane grill, so also, you will be able to finish much faster than a charcoal grill – the reason for this is obvious - since the cooking process is less messier, cleaning will naturally be faster. No hot ashes to be thrown away. Since a propane grill cools much faster than a charcoal grill, immediately, after you have had a sumptuous meal, you can begin cleaning the grates. In care of a charcoal grill, you would have to be careful of children playing in that vicinity and getting scalded badly.
