Error Credit Report

Credit report determines whether an individual will receive a credit card, auto loan, mortgage loan, rent an apartment, or even get an employment. It contains information about every aspect of your life that has to do with bill payments, debt payment, tax liens, bankruptcy cases, and court cases that have to do with payments or credit. The information usually contained in a credit report include your personal information, information from companies that do business with you, information from public records, information that comes from your credit records which also depends on the accuracy of the information you fill in credit card application forms, and statements of dispute for cases that have not been resolved conclusively.

The credit reference bureaus provide their contact detail for both telephone and e-mail which you can use to contact them and to raise any question or issues in your credit report. If there are any inaccuracies on the information you may have provided you can write to the credit bureau concerned and give the correct information and any evidence there may be to prove that the information you are providing is indeed the correct one and should replace whatever exists in your file.

This however is not the major issue for which individuals would raise complaints or report error. Error credit report often originates from the public entry and from the information from companies that do business with you. The type of entries that are therefore likely to raise error credit report include bankruptcy records, court records of tax liens and monetary judgments, credit account opening dates, credit limits, monthly payments and balance among others. These are the one that also determine the credit score. Certain aspects of this information can be retained in the credit file much longer than others. There are other information that is given on credit report while others are only for the file.

Whenever an error has been recorded in a credit report, the individual concerned is expected to raise it with the concerned credit bureau either on phone or online. In such circumstances, one must provide social security number and name and the entry number of the item with error. It is required that documentary evidence which clarifies the position be produced and not just to say that there is a problem. When that is done, the credit bureau opens an investigation into the circumstances that led to such an entry being made which often takes between 30 and 45 days to resolve and to establish the correct position. The report is then adjusted accordingly.
