There are risks involved however, since not every website is as trustworthy. Main reason is because you need to share your credit card details with them, which predisposes you to identity theft. But even with that there are numerous sites that are trustworthy and can be referred to for full credit reporting.

The second place to look for free credit checks is offline- with the agencies that do so. All persons are entitled by law to get annual credit reports. There are well known agencies that do that, like Equifax. Sometimes, you can make a personal request to have them send you your credit report for you to ascertain there are no errors or inconsistencies. While most people do this once a year, it’s recommended you do it biannually, as in once in every six months. You don’t necessarily have to share your credit cards details. Anything that gives proof of your identity, like a driver’s license, usually suffices.

Third place is when you are applying for a credit card. Since the company you are applying from will do a credit check, you will be turned down when you don’t qualify. In such a case, you could ask for a credit report, so that you can know why exactly they turned you down.

Other means include signing up with credit monitoring services. When you join these services, you usually get a free credit check just for being part. However, you do need to proceed with caution, and establish beyond doubt that the services are fully legit. That’s because when you are dealing with matters of finance, more so your credit, there is no such thing as being too careful.
