How To Read Credit Report

Te credit report has very many sections and each section has some detailed information on a particular subject relating to your credit history and status. It is very important to understand the significance of each piece of information on the credit report as every information on the credit report has some importance and shouldn’t be overlooked at any cost.

The credit report has the following sections in it, the ID section, credit history section, collection accounts section, courthouse records section, additional information section, inquiry section and the time information section. All these sections have specific information and in the next paragraphs we will try to take a detailed look at each of the sections in order to understand exactly what is contained in them and why. Starting with the introductory part which is the ID section, it is important because it contains important information that is used to identify you as the true report owner. It is important to look at this section clearly before you proceed to the rest of the document since it will confirm to you that the document you have been sent is rightfully yours and no mistake has been made. It is very important to pay attention to this section even during your application to avoid chances of you receiving another person’s report instead of yours.

The next section after the identification is the credit history section. This section is very important as it contains all information on all the transactions you have undertaken in the recent past and also constitutes a very significant percentage of the credit score that will be made out of the report. The information in this section constitutes 35% of all the percentile marks in your score. In this very section there are lots of other sub sections which are all very important. These include the company name list which details the names of reporting company. The other sub section is the account number section which will list your account number with the reporting company. The other subsection in this category is the; whose account one which indicates whoever is responsible for the particular account and whatever is your participation.

It is important to note that all these sections are based on the history of your credit card transactions and will date back seven years. All the previous information regarding any collections that might have been referred to agencies will all be listed in the collection accounts section. This is another section that is very critical in the report and also constitutes about 30% of your credit score.
