The restaurant was established in 1939 when Bill Johnson and Bill Goodman started off with hamburger and sandwich as the main dishes in their first storefront restaurant that they named Country Kitchen. The joint quickly grew in popularity with folks coming from nearby to buy and eat burgers in their car prompting the two founders to open another restaurant in 1942. They never looked back, and today the restaurant chains are a far cry from where they started. Strewn in more than 26 states in the USA, Country Kitchen International features chicken, steaks and of course burgers in the fare that it offers the customers. Their food is a bit costlier than other joints because this is not fast food, nor is it mere food, but Country food.
Still operating under the motto that it was founded on of treating customers right, the restaurant chain has gone through a lot of changing of hands over time, landing in the hands of its current owner who owns a franchise, Chuck Myers. At the same time, it has now gone international with branches in Puerto Rico, Indonesia and other countries. It has also changed its theme of selling fast foods and it long started offering full menus from complete dinner courses that saw its fame increase. Popular dishes like lobster ravioli have been introduced and they have proved an instant hit with the people. With the need to stick to country themes as pertains to its names, the restaurant chain, shortened to CKI finally sent cease or desist letters to other eateries and food joints that bore the words country and kitchen in their names.
For Country Kitchen International, business is brought by people; and therefore, the idea is to keep people coming back for more. They have managed to keep their customers glued to them by serving foods that lean more to the country side for example large steaks. Steak is like a culture especially in the US and therefore, combined with modern dishes like shrimp scampi and fajitas. Well, people cannot resist coming back for more. To make customer care more efficient, the restaurants recruit and retrain their own staff, inculcating into them the benefits of good customer care and handling skills. Today, CKI trades in the NYSE and it continues unabated in its quest to satisfy customers with more enticing dishes. It continues to expand by opening more outlet points as well as truck stops along the major highways. Latest in its new dishes was the peppermill grill which was debuted in 2006.
