The manufacturer who produces equipment in these cases is called original manufacturer equipment, or original equipment manufacturer (OEM). These OEMs sometimes account for only a part of complex equipment, or the whole equipment. The reseller or next manufacturer puts their own name on this part, or whole equipment and sell the same to the market. For example, some large automobile manufacturers use parts from other companies and fix them to their brand and sell them. The company that manufactures the part here is the OEM.

Though this practice is widely spread today, in some instances, people like to buy parts from the original company rather than the re-manufacturer. The idea behind this popularity is that parts from companies other than the original one sometimes is the cause of malfunctions. This is significant with IT related manufacturers. Therefore, today, most people like to buy original OEM accessories.

In today's market, the original manufacturer’s equipment now gets prominence than equipment which comes around as a result of a second connection. Earlier customers did not care who has manufactured the equipment as long as it gives good service. Now this trend has been changed and people like to buy original ones from the OEM such as Intel, Pentium 4 etc. Even though some part of a computer is from other brands, people prefer if they are from the original brand names that they respect for quality products.

Unlike earlier days, today the original manufacturer’s equipment is available worldwide. They guarantee the quality of the equipment as well as its components. The products of OEM can be are highly trusted as they are produced to international standards and appropriate specifications. The quality of every part is well certified by the OEM Company. If the original manufacturer’s equipment gets the service of another company, it takes the responsibility of the supplier as well.

Rather than selling others' equipment under someone else’s name, the original manufacturers and the other resellers should come together and take the responsibility of the whole product under one name. Finished products frequently consist of various other OEM components. The markets of these OEM parts also get their own prestige with the sale of the whole product. For example, some batteries and tires of prestigious car brands are combined with original brands and they get high popularity through the said brand of car. Quality of products is the main criteria of a product. OEM should protect their components and products from faulty practices in the market at any cost.
