A lathe is also used quite frequently in a metal machine shop. The lathe will shave the metal to specific degrees. These are usually quite large as are the NC and the CNC. The metal will go through several different processes before it is ready to be shipped to the client. Depending on the item ordered and the customer’s request, there are sometimes several hundred pieces of the exact item and each piece must be precise. A slab of metal will arrive at the machine shop with hole measurements, milling measurements and what the competed item should look like.

If a shop has a malfunctioning machine or one that has not been programmed correctly, it could be a loss of thousands of dollars to the shop owner as well as the customer who placed the order. When searching for large pieces of used shop equipment it is vital that you see the machine in progress whenever possible. Also know that used equipment will most likely not come with any warranty or guarantee of how long the machine will work. These machines are designed to last for several years if they are maintained on a correct and regular basis so it is important to get the record of all maintained performed on the machinery to determine if it has been properly taken care of.
