Annual Credit Check

Each year, the credit bureaus are required by the laws of the land to give free annual reports. Every consumer is entitled to this. The bureaus are also required to give relevant information as to how the same reports can be acquired easily and what details a consumer needs to give in order to access them. Should a consumer become suspicious of any dealings that have been closed with their credit cards without their knowledge, they are entitled to a credit report even before the end of the year as stipulated by the law.

For such, consumers are required to pay some money, usually a small fee. One of the major reasons why you would need to go for an annual credit check is that you get to know your credit rating; because after all, credit rating is the reason why we bear with credit card borrowing in the first place. Credit rating is shown in the number of scores that one has accumulated over time. These scores are awarded by the credit card rating agencies and they differ from state to state although all of them operate under the same fiscal law. They are rated by the number of times that you borrow credit with your credit card, and how efficiently you pay back. Therefore, the more times that you borrow and pay in time, the more scores you get on your ratings and the more you improve on your credit worthiness.

When you check your credit history annually, it tells you whether you need to improve on your score so that borrowing loans or looking for financing might be made easier in future for you. Every time that you go to a lender, be it a bank, mortgage company or insurance company, they will first go to the credit rating agencies to get the details of your credit life. This is not violation of privacy or snooping, but a check on your credibility. That is all the more reason why you need to annually check on your credit history. On the other hand, an annual check into your credit record would do well to alert you of any shady dealing on your credit card. Some identity thief or credit card fraudster may have borrowed credit in your name. You can put a stop to such crimes that are every consumer’s worst nightmare in time. Such is the importance of the annual credit check. It should not be taken for granted.
